Why telehealth fits Washington

The Cascades split Washington in two, and psychiatric capacity is split far less evenly than the population. Most specialists practise around Puget Sound, where the problem is reaching them: I-5 and the bridges across Lake Washington are congested at exactly the hours appointments are offered, and for island and peninsula communities the trip starts with a ferry schedule. East of the mountains, Spokane is the medical hub for the whole Inland Northwest, and towns across the Columbia Basin are a long highway drive from it. Crossing between the two halves means a mountain pass such as Snoqualmie, which winter storms can close for hours or days at a time. Secure video visits take all of that out of the appointment, so follow-ups happen on schedule wherever in the state you live.

Grey skies, short days, and mood

Seattle sits farther north than any other major city in the contiguous United States, and around the winter solstice it gets only about eight and a half hours of daylight. West of the Cascades those short days usually come under a long, grey, overcast season that runs from autumn well into spring. East of the mountains the winters are sunnier but colder, and the days are just as short. Winter-pattern changes in mood, energy, and sleep are therefore a routine part of what we ask Washington patients about, and the timing of a plan matters as much as its content — starting before the dark months is easier than catching up halfway through them.

Appointments in your time zone

Willow & Stone keeps Central Time hours — Sunday through Thursday, 10AM to 6PM CT — and Pacific Time runs two hours behind that all year, since both zones change clocks on the same dates. In practice the schedule opens at 8AM and closes at 4PM Washington time, which suits a morning before work or a midday break. Confirm your slot in Pacific Time when you book so nothing is lost in the conversion.
