Spravato Treatment in New Mexico: What to Expect

By Dr. Stacey Forbes, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Spravato can be life-changing for treatment-resistant depression — but the logistics matter, especially in a rural state like New Mexico.

What is Spravato?

Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal-spray treatment for treatment-resistant depression, and for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder and acute suicidal ideation or behavior.

The in-person requirement

Because of the federal REMS safety program, Spravato must be administered and monitored in person at a certified site — it cannot be dosed over telehealth. This is important for New Mexico patients to understand upfront.
